The organizers of Expo 2020 will meet on March 30th to discuss the delay of this mega event. Meeting will be a video call. According to reports from the Middle East, a one-year shift is one of several options that need to be discussed.

With the beginning of the event on October 20 this year, a shift in spring is also possible. A final decision would have to be taken by the member states of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions, which will host the event.

However, a start in this October is not yet impossible. In their latest public statement, the organizers of Expo 2020 only said that they were keeping a watchful eye on the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, both Emirates and Etihad have canceled practically all flights in the United Arab Emirates, while international travel blocks have taken effect worldwide.

Government officials in Dubai have for years touted Expo 2020 as a potential gold mine for the destination and spent billions of dollars on the construction of hotels and facilities. Dubai had previously expressed hope of welcoming 25 million international arrivals this year, with the event being a key driver.

A spokesman for the Bureau International des Expositions said the steering committee meeting would “re-evaluate and adjust the planned preparations.”

Any change in the date requires a two-thirds majority of the members.
