An American airlines flight was eight hours late and a passenger was arrested after claiming to have the corona virus on the plane.
The flight was originally scheduled to depart from Dallas-Fort Worth International shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday, but instead took off on Sunday at 3:10 a.m. local time and landed at Nashville International Airport about an hour and a half later.
The officers answered a call around 9:30 p.m. The local time an aircraft returned to its gate after a passenger “indicated that he had a corona virus”. Paramedics in Hazmat suits rated the man in question, George Gjergji, 72, of Paducah, Kentucky, and reported that he had no COVID-19 symptoms.
Ross Feinstein, representative of American Airlines, confirmed to the US TODAY that the delay was “due to a disturbing passenger who was subsequently arrested”. An incident report from the airport’s legal department, received by the USA TODAY, shows that Gjergji was arrested on Saturday for knowingly reporting a false emergency.
