The chief executive officer (CEO) of Pakistan Railways (PR), Ijaz Ahmed Abro, has declared 2019 to be the department’s revolutionary year.
He made these comments when he spoke at Pakistan Railways headquarters on Wednesday.
According to Abro, online bookings rose at a record level last year as more than 60 percent of seats were booked online and promised to increase e-ticketing in 2020. The CEO announced that no seats had become available in the past year.
Ijaz Abro reported on the success of PR in 2019, recalling that 275 touring coaches were repaired on site and 75 Chinese touring coaches were added to the fleet.
He said 24 new trains were operating from August 18, 2019 to December 14, 2019, and hoped that two more trains would be operational by May 2020.
He praised the role of workshops and wagon factories, without which new trains could not be put into operation.
He mentioned that during the year the department renewed and restored 157 km of rails in various departments and repaired 31 bridges. The Ahmed Abro further that ML-1 will be inaugurated in 2020.
