A photographer was delighted when she stepped outside on a cold December morning. Svetlana Kazina lives in the Altai Mountains in Siberia and came across a rare sight of dazzling clouds over Belukha Mountain, the highest mountain in Siberia at 4,506 meters.
“The wind at this height was so strong that the cloud top changed every second,” Kazina told Mystical Raven.
This optical phenomenon is caused by tiny ice crystals in the air that cause light to diffract. This always happens within a cloud and occurs in the general vicinity of the sun or moon. The result is a fascinating color representation in the clouds and a fascinating light show.
The Altai Mountains in southern Siberia attract nature lovers with their impressive landscape and are known as “Siberian Switzerland”.
