San Francisco is taking the Italian route with its security measures for corona viruses – the mayor introduces a 24-hour curfew that prohibits almost anyone from leaving their homes.
Mayor London Breed announced what she called the “defining moment” in the US response to the pandemic. From 12 noon all city residents can only go to the doctor or walk to the grocery store.
It is the strictest new policy enacted in the nation and is in line with current rules in Italy … the second toughest country in the world.
The rule will be there for 3 weeks, as per the mayor.
In addition to the closure of the city, 6 districts in the Bay Area are asking residents to seek “local protection.” That is … if your work does not fall under the “essential companies” list, you have been ordered to stay at home.
This list of major companies includes healthcare, grocery, emergency shelter, media, gas stations, and banks. Restaurants can remain open, but only to take away and deliver.
