Saudi authorities arrested a man on Friday for hitting his car into the outer gate of the Holy Kaaba, Makkah. The local media reported that there were no casualties. Security officials reacted to the incident after the vehicle crashed into one of the mosque’s entrance gates, the government spokesman said.
According to the local media, the car swayed at high speed on one of the streets around the south courtyard of the Great Mosque. The driver is a Saudi citizen and was found in an unnatural condition and immediately arrested. He is being referred to the prosecutor, as per the media.
Videos posted on social media showed the car plowing through plastic barricades in the mosque’s outer courtyard before going straight into one of the large outer doors.
